Chairman's Message: Ian Fallas
Another year, another Cornet, and another Common Riding is almost upon us. Time waits for no man. Firstly on behalf of all of Lauder I would like to thank Malcolm for all the hard work and effort he has put into our Common Riding over the past years. Having steered us through some difficult times, he can now relax a little and enjoy the Common Riding without any stress.
This year Nancy and Linda organised a great 60's night, everyone dressed in period clothes and had a ball. Well done, you raised a welcome addition to the coffers.
We were saddened by the passing of Ex Cornet Wull Johnston and Myra Whellans, both weel kent faces and will be greatly missed.
Our Cornet, Marc Alexander has been very busy, representing our town at other festivals and all reports are that he has upheld the good name of Lauder on every occasion. Marc and Vivienne, I wish you all that is required to make 2009 a year to remember. Fine weather, big crowds and a large following.
Thanks to all who helped to make Scottish Gas see the error of their ways and postpone their major roadworks until after the Common Riding. Also a big thank you to the Lauderdale Hotel and Masonic Lodge for their continued support of horses.
Our Lady Busser this year is Margaret Dick who is also Secretary of the Exiles Association. Miss Joan Etchells will present the wreath to the cornet. Have a great week ladies.
Congratulations to our Silver Jubilee Cornet Crawford McNeil and Golden Jubilee Cornet Neil Wilson. Enjoy your day.
No community thrives on divided interests and an event like our Common Riding reminds everyone of their shared inheritance. To Lauder townsfolk and visitors alike, may the sun shine sae rosy and I wish you a happy and enjoyable Common Riding. To Cornet Marc Safe Oot-Safe In, savour the day for you only get one chance.
