2009 has been designated Homecoming Year and we hope as many Exiles as possible will be able to return to Lauder for our Common Riding celebrations. The Exiles Association was formed in 1977 when it was thought it would be a good idea to have a get together and a blether between those returning to Lauder for the week and those of us who live here. The Reunion has been going from strength to strength since then and I am sure this years will be no exception. We look forward to welcoming everyone to the Bistro in the Lauderdale Hotel on Tuesday 28th July at 8pm for a finger buffet. The Cornet will be presented with a memento as will our Golden Jubilee Cornet, Neil Wilson and we hope to have the Silver Jubilee Cornet, Crawford McNeil, present as well (himself an Exile!). All Ex-Cornets present will join to sing the Lauder songs and there will be much exchanging of gossip.
We have a new Chairman this year as Bill Brown has decided to step down after many years in office; however Ex-Cornet Stuart Thomson has taken up the reins and he has also become an Exile as he and his family have moved to the Isle of Lewis. Stuart has a hard act to follow but I am sure he wil rise to the challenge. If you know of anyone you think would like to join the Exiles Association please get in touch on 01578 722363 or lauder-exiles@hotmail.co.uk
Congratulations to Cornet Marc Alexander and his lass Vivienne and we wish them a great week which will provide so many memories to treasure down the years. Also our best wishes go to Joanna Etchells when her big moment comes presenting the Cornet with the wreath and to Common Riding Chairman Ian Fallas in his first year of office.
We wish everyone a very happy Common Riding. Safe Oot-Safe In.
Margaret Dick, Secretary
