Lady Busser: Margaret Dick

I have been asked what it feels like to be invited to be the Lady Busser and my standard answer is "chuffed to bits"! Being brought up at Threepwood, we used to come down to Lauder to watch the Common Riding so I have watched this lady for years and as a small girl thought she must at least be related to the Queen, if not the Queen herself. Now I am much older, a little wiser and I know better but it doesn't diminish the sense of pride and honour I have to buss the Cornet's colours and present him with the Burgh Standard.

As my elder son, Stewart, was Cornet in 2004 I know a little of what Marc must be feeling and my advice to him would be the same as from many others-enjoy the week, savour each moment and treasure the memories that will come flooding back each year. Marc and I are having a "once in a lifetime" week and I wish him, his lass and his family a wonderful week.

My good wishes to everyone, locals and visitors alike, to have a wonderful Common Riding with the sun shining and Safe Oot - Safe In.

Presenting the Wreath: Joanna Etchells

I was so excited to be asked by the Chairman of the Common Riding Committee to present the wreath to Cornet

Alexander on Common Riding morning. Common Riding week is great and I have ridden both the Common Riding and the Apprentice Ride. It's an honour to be asked to be part of Lauder's special week. I hope that everyone has a great time and enjoys the Common Riding as much as I do! Good luck to Cornet Marc and his Lass Vivienne-safe oot, safe in.
