2009 Lauder Cornet: Marc Alexander

What a fantastic privilege and honour is was to be chosen to carry the Burgh Standard. I never thought I would be
fortunate enough to have been given this special role. The position of Cornet fills me with enormous pride and
excitement, a role which I will endeavour to ensure the people of Lauder are proud to have entrusted me with such a high office.

My family has lived in Lauder for 26 years and I have lived in Lauder all my life. Bon in 1986, I went to Lauder Primary School and have supported the Common Riding every year since I was a wee laddie. I am overwhelmed with
excitement and anticipation of our big day on Saturday 1st August.

What a pleasure and privilege it has been visiting the other festivals throughout the Borders, from my first ride at Threepwood with the Braw Lad and Lass from Gala to the fabulous experience of visiting the hut at Hawick and
galloping up the toll in Selkirk. They have all been absolutely magnificent and left me with memories I will treasure all my life.

I would like to wish the people of Bonnie Lauderdale the very best for your Common Riding Week and hope it will be filled with fantastic memories for everyone. For me, it will of course be carrying our Royal and Ancient Burgh's
Standard.

I also extend a warm welcome to all the new inhabitants of our Royal and Ancient Burgh and encourage you to
participate in our week of celebrations which is steeped in years of history. I am sure all the well seasoned regulars will assist me and my lass to have a great time at our most important festival.
